After securing the mast and disconnecting the crane, the yacht will normally move to her berth before tuning commences. At this time the riggers start to remove the protection that was put in place for the stepping procedure and any control lines used during the process. Hydraulic reconnections on vangs, backstay cylinders and furlers can now be started, ensuring where necessary all air is removed from the lines before connection.

Tuning starts at this point and the mast will be re-tuned to manufacturers tuning guidelines. The dock tuning process involves jacking the mast up and down using the hydraulic mast jacks, tensioning the individual rod pairs in sequence and recording the pressures until the overall loading is required and the shape of the mast is correct.

After dock tuning and completion of hydraulic reconnections and other installations including waterproofing the mast collar, the yacht is ready for the sails to be fitted and then sail trials.
