RSB Rigging Solutions recently completed a full refit to the J One rig, converting their old rig, removing 200kg from the mast and replacing the old rod with the Carbolink Carbon product. The refit also included modifying the existing headstay adjustment system to include a custom made Harken hydraulic ram with a 150mm of stroke to allow the rig tune to be changed much easier as the conditions at the regattas dictates.

The renowned Wally Yacht is now performing faster and remains a fierce competitor for the upcoming regattas. Russ Brown is the Project Manager for RSB with J One, and sailed last weekend with her in this year’s Palma Vela Regatta: ‘We are very happy with the boat after the rigging work over winter, so far the performance improvement is as predicted. Windward leeward races always favour J One so race day one was very encouraging for us.'

'We tend to loose touch with the big boats in the fleet on the coastal races and it’s often hard to beat them on corrected time. As the first regatta of the season our primary target was to beat all the other 80 footers. We accomplished this over the weekend and were very happy with the crew work, the manoeuvres were consistently fast and clean allowing the tactician to push the limits on timing and manoeuvres during mark roundings.'

'The mood on board is very positive and despite a couple of results we would rather not have counted due to some flukey conditions we have come away very happy with the performance and are ready to build on this in the upcoming Menorca Regatta.’ Photo Credit: Martinez Studio
