RSB Rigging Solutions recently had a splicing job that came in to the workshop: thankfully brought to RSB’s attention.

The splice was quite dangerous when it arrived and RSB were pleased that their splicing team could re-splice before any accidents happened. Great work splicing man Allan and team!

Here is a brief description of the issue: A new main Halyard from a +40m Yacht. The thimble could be pushed out by hand: It had a Brumel Hitch splice which reduces the breaking load of the line especially if the bury is short. The length of the bury was only 250mm which caused the whole load of the line on this Brumel splice which was as effective as tying a knot in the line = very dangerous. Luckily RSB were asked to re-splice this line before it was used.

RSB have a dedicated splicing department for all ropes and rigging. If you have any queries please do not hesitate to contact Allan Wester in the RSB workshop in STP Shipyard or email splicing@rsb-rigging.com
