Yesterday was Team Velsheda day. It started in the morning with this stunning J boat arriving into the big lifting pit to have the 53 meter Southern Spars supplied mast unstepped. The rig is out to allow for winter service work and minor modifications to be carried out while the boat undergoes an extensive refit aimed at making her even faster!

With the mast was on the ground and secure in the high load trollies the crane was then moved to the other end of the yard where Bystander, the mother ship to Velsheda required two masts to be removed to allow the shrink wrap tent to be built around the boat so a full repaint can take place over the winter.

With access to the boat being very limited we had to use the full length of the crane to get the hook over the front of Bystander to remove the forward mast however it did seem a little funny having such a large crane for such a small mast!
